The short answer

Explore Vietnamese phở, Japanese-inspired ramen, Bombay-style grills and an itsu rice bowl, with verified portions and honest nutrition limitations.

Different cuisines. Different kinds of order.

“Asian food” covers far more cuisines than a single shortlist can represent. This guide offers four starting points in UK restaurants: Vietnamese noodle soup, Japanese-inspired ramen, Bombay café food and a quick Asian-inspired rice bowl. It is not a claim that these chains represent the best of an entire continent.

The useful distinction is how the meal is assembled. A complete noodle bowl can be compared as one portion; a grill with separately ordered rice cannot. Broth-based dishes may have moderate calories but still contain substantial salt, so we show more than energy when the restaurant publishes it.

The shortlist

The orders to know.

We selected different meal formats and named their cuisine context. Individual bowls remain separate from dishes requiring accompaniments. “Worth exploring” reflects menu research, not restaurant visits or a national taste survey.

Pho

Vietnamese noodle soup: chicken phở at Pho

This is a full noodle-soup entry in Pho’s published nutrition guide, not a small starter. The restaurant dates that document to January 2026, which is useful context even though we checked it in September. Extras still need their own entry.

Ordering note. Check added sauces and toppings separately. The published soup table does not supply salt, so absence of a salt figure is not evidence of a low-salt dish.

Wagamama

Japanese-inspired noodles: Wagamama grilled chicken ramen

A named bowl with a clear current panel makes portion comparison straightforward. Salt is the important trade-off: the restaurant lists 4.9 g for this serving. The standard and non-gluten recipes should not be combined into one set of figures.

Dishoom

A Bombay café grill: Dishoom Chicken Tikka

This is a different dinner structure: choose a grill, then decide on rice, bread and other dishes. The lack of a verified macro panel does not make it a poor dining choice; it means we cannot present it as a precisely measured meal.

Ordering note. If sharing, decide what belongs to your order without pretending every diner takes an identical portion.

itsu

For a quick rice bowl: itsu chicken teriyaki

The individual dish page supplies the figures shown here. They differ from the older Menuu restaurant record, so this guide keeps the source distinction visible. Check the salt figure alongside the chicken and rice.

Before you order

Choose by the occasion

For a quick solo lunch, one labelled bowl is easy to identify. For a long dinner with friends, shared grills and sides may be the better fit. Those are different use cases, not positions on a single league table.

Do not flatten the cuisines

Vietnamese phở and a Bombay-style grill have different ingredients, traditions and serving structures. Try a dish because its format appeals to you; broad labels such as “Asian” or “clean” tell you very little about its nutrition.

Read beyond calories

For the two fully labelled Japanese-inspired bowls, salt is visible as well as macros. Pho’s table has no salt column, while Dishoom’s reviewed menu lacks complete nutrition. Those gaps prevent a fair salt ranking across all four.

Frequently asked questions

Is noodle soup automatically a lighter choice?

No. Use the actual bowl and accompaniments. A broth-based recipe may also contain substantial salt.

Why does the itsu value differ from its Menuu restaurant page?

The individual official dish page reviewed for this article has changed from the older stored menu record. This article identifies that difference rather than silently mixing sources.

Research, sources & limits

Official menus and nutrition pages were checked on 18 September 2026. Restaurant publication dates, where supplied, are separate from that check date. These are desk-researched recommendations, not reports of visits or a taste test. Availability, recipes and portions can change.

Published nutrition does not guarantee allergy suitability. Check current ingredients and cross-contact information with the restaurant. Restaurants linked to Menuu have their own dated menu records; external recommendations are not a promise of app coverage.
