The short answer
Four UK restaurant orders for planning a calorie-reduction phase, with complete portions, verified values where available and advice beyond calorie counting.
A calorie-reduction phase still needs proper meals.
In fitness language, a “cut” usually means a period of reducing body fat. This guide is for adults already considering a suitable, moderate approach; it does not tell you whether weight loss is appropriate or prescribe a deficit. The NHS puts balanced meals, vegetables, protein and sensible portions at the centre of its eating advice.
The shortlist gives concrete starting points, not a rule that dinner must stay below a particular number. A restaurant visit can fit around ordinary meals. You do not need to skip food beforehand or compensate afterwards to use this guide.

The shortlist
The orders to know.
We chose identifiable adult portions with useful energy information. Published protein is included only when checked; sauces and side boundaries remain visible. This is not a ranking of the lowest possible calorie orders.
Pho
For a labelled noodle bowl: Pho chicken phở
Use the published soup portion as a starting point when it is the meal you want. Its protein is documented, but its salt is not, so it cannot be described as low in salt from this source.

Ordering note. Check extras separately and choose enough food for your needs; a lower listed value is not an instruction to eat less than you need.
For a standard ramen serving: Wagamama
This bowl has verified calories and protein, with an important salt trade-off. It illustrates why choosing a meal on energy alone gives an incomplete picture.

For a burger you want to eat: Nando’s
The single grilled burger can be a straightforward starting point for a planned order. The figure is for that burger, not an entire meal or a target for how much you should eat.

Ordering note. Choose a side if wanted and check its serving. Do not treat a meal upgrade as included in the burger’s calories.
For a pub lunch: a jacket potato with beans
The Haverhill example includes its filling and salad, making its serving boundary clear. It can help you spot the difference between a finished lunch and a bare-potato nutrition entry.

Figures belong to the portions described. “Not verified” means we could not confirm that value for this review; it does not mean zero. See each order above for all verified nutrients and its source.

Before you order
Keep the meal balanced
The NHS recommends vegetables, protein and attention to portions when trying to lose weight. In practice, look at the complete plate before making a small, deliberate change rather than stripping away every accompaniment.
Avoid rigid rules around social meals
Check the menu if that helps, choose what you enjoy and return to your usual routine afterwards. An occasional meal does not require compensatory fasting or exercise.
Protect training and wellbeing
The BDA notes that inadequate energy can affect exercise and recovery. If you are persistently tired, hungry or preoccupied with food, seek individual support rather than pushing the restriction further. Weight-loss targets are outside this guide.

Frequently asked questions
Must I order under 500 calories on a cut?
No. Meal needs differ. A menu threshold is a browsing aid, not an individual calorie prescription.
Can I still choose a burger or pub meal?
Yes. Check the complete order and portions. No restaurant category needs to be automatically excluded.
